Blog/Website Design Tips For Better SEO

As bloggers, we all know the importance of SEO. But most of the bloggers overlook one very important aspect of SEO. Blog or Website design.
Blog design can have a really drastic effect on SEO.
Most bloggers do all the regular things such as backlinks, keywords etc., but people never look at how much effect blog design can have on a search rankings, especially in Google.
There are certain factors of blog design that affect SEO, here they are
• Blog load speed
 • Blog navigation
 • Sitemaps
 • Breadcrumbs
 • More content area
These are five really big blog design factors that affect SEO. Let us take a look at each one of them more closely.

Blog Load Speed For SEO

This is one of the most important blog or website designing factors that can affect your blog’s search engine optimization. Here is a pic of my blog’s page speed test on Google Page Speed.

Basically you need to make your site load faster to improve your blogs search engine rankings. You can do this is several ways, which I will discuss in a later post so stay tuned.
Matt Cutt’s himself has said that blog load time will have an effect on SEO, although it may not be as important as relevancy and quality content.
So if you have quality content, why let slow load times reduce your blogs search rankings?
Try to get a 90+ rating on Google Page Speed Insights and you should be fine with your page load times.

Blog Navigation For SEO

Blog navigation is also important when it comes to SEO. It may not directly affect your SEO, but Google likes blogs which are user friendly and are easily navigable. So Google ranks blogs with better navigation higher in search engine.
I also knew a friend whose AdSense application got rejected as Google stated that his blog did not have good navigation, he later on altered this and got his AdSense accepted.
So basically you can learn that blog navigation is seen as an important aspect in Google’s eyes.

Sitemaps

This is something every blogger should know, obviously!
Sitemaps are VITAL for every blog/site and whatever else there is on the internet
You can see a sample of how a sitemap should look like here, iGau Sitemap.
Sitemaps allow Google to find and index each and every page of your blog.It is like an address book for all the pages of your blog, using sitemaps makes all pages easy to find.
I think you understood the importance of a Sitemap.

Breadcrumbs

If you have a sitemap page, breadcrumbs are not that important, but they can help you out in search engines by emphasizing each category page. Obviously, from a category page, all the blog posts in that category can be followed through dofollow links.
Here is how a breadcrumb would look like.

Most SEO optimized templates or themes for WordPress will have breadcrumbs installed, if it does not, I strongly recommend you install some plugin to get breadcrumbs.

More Content Area

Many new bloggers trying to make a quick buck off their blog, will make the sidebars bigger to put in more ads than make the content area big.
This is a very bad practice.
Not long ago, Google released an Algorithm Update called “Above The Fold Algo“. Basically what this algo did was ensure that blogs with less content area would go down in search engines.
So make sure that you increase the size of your content area and decrease the size of your sidebars etc.

Conclusion  Of Blog Design For SEO

So bascially, these are a few things I have learnt over my time in blogging. These tips will definitely help your blog go higher in the search results, no doubt about it
