How To Add Google Analytics To WordPress With Analytify

When it comes to growing your blog, one of the most important things that can help you, is keeping an eye on your stats.
We all know that Google Analytics is the king when it comes to keeping track of visitors, pageviews, and user interaction.
And if you are using WordPress, there is a sheer amount of plugins out there that integrate with Google Analytics. From helping you add the code into your WordPress site to displaying the stats within your dashobard, the choices are many.
In today’s post, we will take a look at the Analytify plugin, which is available from WordPress repository and it also comes with a pro version (you’ll find a discount code for this at the bottom of the post).
Analytify is a WordPress plugin which enables you to see your Google Analytics stats straight in your WordPress dashboard, but goes above and beyond other similar plugins by letting you view detailed statistics for a single post or a page directly  below the live editor.

Using Analytify to add Google Analytics to WordPress

To add Analytify and enable Google Analytics in your Dashboard, you need to install it first. So let’s go ahead and do that!
Step 1: Go to Plugins > Add New and search for Analytify. Click on the plugin to install it and then activate it.

In order to get the plugin working, you need to authenticate the plugin with your Google Analytics profile. You can either click on the button that says Auto-Populate the following fields or you can sign up for your own API code, and access key.
Let’s work through both methods!

Option 1: Auto-populate the fields:

Go ahead and click the plugin to pre-populate the fields for Client ID, Client secret and API key.

Save the changes and  you will be prompted to proceed to the next step which requires you to authenticate the plugin to use your Google Analytics profile. Click on the button and wait for the browser to re-direct you to the authentication screen.

Allow the plugin to access your account.
After you have allowed it to access your Google Analytics data, you will be prompted to select the desired profile. Select the one that matches your site and you are done!

Option 2: Sign up for your own API key:

Step 1: You need to create a Project in Google Developer Console by following the link from the plugin’s settings page. It will ask you to login with your Google Account if you are not logged in already. Click on ‘Create Project’ button.

A popup will appear, where you will enter ‘Project Name’ and ‘Project ID’ which will help you recognize your project in the console.
By clicking on the Create button, your project will be created and it will redirect you to your project dashboard.
Step 2: Go to APIs & auth -> APIs and select ‘Analytics API’ and turn it ‘ON’.

Step 3: Next, go to APIs & Auth -> Consent Screen and enter your product name. It can be whatever you want but it’s helpful to give it some meaningful name such as you site-plugin name or similar.
Step 4: Go to APIs & auth -> Credentials. Click on OAuth section, click on Create New Client ID. Select ‘Installed Application’ and ‘other’ in the popup screen.

Step 5: Now, you need to get Public API Key. On the same credentials page, under the OAuth section, you will have ‘Public API access’ section. Click on ‘Create new Key’ button. Click the Browser Key and press ‘Create‘ button.

Step 6: Now go back to your WordPress dashboard and enter your client ID, your Secret and finally your API key. You will be prompted to authenticate with your Google account, and after that it will ask you to select the desired profile.
Once you are done with that, the plugin is set up and you are good to go!
Now that your plugin is set up and installed, you can sit back and immediately see the plugin in action.
You can access the stats via the plugin’s own dashboard or you can see the stats for each post/page individually in your WordPress dashboard directly below the post editing screen.

Although you can download the free version of the plugin and get the analytics data, there are some advantages to upgrading to the premium version of the plugin.
