You might have noticed that Wikipedia appears on number 1 page in Google search results for a specific keyword(s). If you read an article of the Wikipedia, you can see many interlinks pointing to other articles. And interlinking is the main on page SEO strategy of Wikipedia.

So what is interlinking in SEO?

Why Interlink is important for Blog Post?

When visitors come from search engine or referral site they don’t know much about your site. But if you smartly interlinked your articles it will provoke them to visit more pages which may turn them into subscriber.
Internal Linking not only gives you a backlink from one page to another page but also helps search engine to jump one from another and to index them.

Interlinking is an easy task if you do it with plugins. If your blog has a huge amount of posts then you will need an auto Interlinking plugin like SEO Smart Link. But it is a premium plugin. For free WordPress Insights plugin is the best solution for you. It is very helpful for quick interlinking.

WordPress Insights is the best plugin for manual interlinking your posts. It increases productivity and at the same time the appeal of your posts. In finds related post of your chosen keywords almost immediately.

How to configure Insights Plugin

Download and install the plugin from here
Once you active the plugin you will find the Insights toolbar (Like following one) after your post editor.

You can search for related post for the specific keywords in search box. In results it will show relevant articles according to your keywords. But default search option is not effective. That’s why I use Google search results by using following terms:

“keyword” site:techalive.net

Once you have found the relevant article, simply select the keywords from your post editor and click on the ‘Insert link to selection’ button beside the results. It also helps you for outbound linking from Wikipedia or Google results.

It is true that interlinking is one of the best on page SEO strategy. But if you do it excessively or irrelevant keywords then search engine bots can consider it as spam.So do it wisely.
Via settings you can configure:

• How many search results you want to see;
• Flickr search options;
• Google maps API key (if you need Google Maps search results).

When I see one of my posts is on the first page in search engine, then I add more value(information) to the post and try to interlink more with relevant keywords. I do this once a day and only for old post. For new post, interlink before publishing. And also try to interlink new articles to the old articles.
